Fereshteh was born a refugee in Iran when her parents fled Afghanistan due to the Soviet invasion. When the Taliban regime collapsed, and the Soviets left Afghanistan, Fereshteh’s parents returned to Herat, Afghanistan. Fereshteh was able to earn her bachelor’s in computer science and Master’s in database management system engineering after her return. Fereshteh has had a significant impact on raising Bitcoin awareness in Afghanistan. Fereshteh was a co-founder and board member of the Women’s Annex Foundation before launching Code to Inspire in January 2015. This organization, currently called Digital Citizen Fund, is a non-profit that educates girls and women on digital literacy and aims to provide girls in developing nations with access to technology and the internet.
